World Ballet Day is Nearly Here!
It's almost World Ballet Day 2018! Once again, we're in for a real treat. Three of the world's most prestigious ballet companies combine on Tuesday 2 October for 24 hours of live-streamed rehearsals, company classes, interviews, and backstage secrets. Unfortunately it seems we won't be hearing from The San Francisco Ballet or The National Ballet of Canada this year, but I'm sure The Australian Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and The Bolshoi Ballet, with input from ballet companies

#Throwback Thursday
We're back in the studio archives for this week's #ThrowbackThursday! Good luck to all students sitting ballet and modern exams today and tomorrow - time to show the examiner all your hard work! On another note, it's World Ballet Day next week on 2 October - I'll post the link to where you can watch it in a few days, but if you haven't seen it before, it's definitely worth a watch! Without further ado... Gentry and Rebecca, Restricted Ballet Championship, Easter 1999 Laura, E

Arthur Mitchell Passes Away
It is with great sadness that I share the news of Arthur Mitchell's death earlier today. A legendary dancer with the New York City Ballet and student of George Balanchine, in later years he was a beloved teacher and mentor. He paved the way for hundreds of African-American dancers, founding the Dance Theater of Harlem, and will be deeply missed by the dance community in America and the world. He was 84. For a more detailed account of his life, please read my Spotlight post on

#Throwback Thursday
It's #ThrowbackThursday! Let's take a look back at 1998. Here's Phoebe in her costume (which is still in the storage room somewhere) for her barefoot 'Potpourri', Labour Weekend, 1998; this barefoot is set to some truly beautiful music from Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Scheherazade' Kareen with the trophy she won for Restricted Ballet Championship at Easter, 1998; we've still got this gorgeous tutu, but it's now - sadly - too delicate to be worn. RNZB 2019 Season Reveal
It feels like it was just last week that I wrote a post on RNZB's 2018 season - where does the time go? Still, the Royal New Zealand Ballet announced their 2019 season yesterday. We've got some real gems to look forward to, and it's nice to see how artistic director Patricia Barker is balancing brand new works with the classics. New Choreographic Series Caroline Wiley, Fabio Lo Giudice, and Kihiro Kusukami, RNZB There's not much info on this triple bill just yet, but that mig
