#Throwback Thursday: Agon
This week's #ThrowbackThursday features Balanchine's ballet Agon. Arthur Mitchell and Diana Adams Agon is a work for twelve dancers, choreographed by George Balanchine to music by Igor Stravinsky. Balanchine started the work in 1953, but was interrupted. He did not resume the ballet until 1956. Stravinsky's music first premiered separately to the ballet, in Los Angeles conducted by Robert Craft on June 17, 1957. Stravinsky's composition took some years to complete, and repres

October Competitions
The last competitions for the year have finished! The TFDA October competitions ran from Thursday to Sunday - well done to all students who danced! We're now moving onto our annual end of year concert - this year's theme is Dance Around the World, to be held on December 3. It was also the last competitions for two of our senior students, Emily and Samantha. They're headed off to university next year - best of luck, girls! Romeo and Juliet isn't the only Shakespeare play to have been turned into a ballet. This week's #ThrowbackThursday features Christopher's Wheeldon's three act ballet The Winter's Tale. The ballet follows the plot of Shakespeare's lesser known play. Spotlight: Jenny Hasselqvist
This week's Spotlight Saturday features little-known ballerina and actress Jenny Hasselqvist. Born Matilda Elizabeth Jenny Hasselqvist (sometimes Hasselquist) in Stockholm, July 31 1894 to a Swedish MP and his wife, she studied at the Swedish Opera's ballet school from 1906. She debuted as a ballerina in her teens, performing with the Royal Swedish Ballet from 1910. Mikhail Fokine chose her for solo roles in La Sylphide and Cleopatra in 1913. She was quickly promoted to prima
