Performing Opportunities

Alison’s Studio of Dance offers optional performance activities throughout the year. Students are actively encouraged to participate in these opportunities, but they are not requirements.

ANNUAL SEMINAR

Our annual seminars are unique to the studio. Expert tutors are brought in from outside of Taranaki to guide students through a ‘day of dance’. Each year incorporates a different theatrical aspect, such as the making of props and costumes, singing, and face-paint. Every seminar has a different theme – previous seminars have included ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, and ‘The Lion King’.

END-OF-YEAR CONCERT

This is our annual finish to the year. Every student has the opportunity to perform on stage in costume for their families. Our concerts also have themes, such as Disney and Musical Theatre.

EXAMINATIONS AND MEDAL TESTS

These are offered in all classes for ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap. While not mandatory, these can be an enjoyable experience with encouraging examiners. Students who sit these exams can receive certificates and medals in reward for their hard work. There are three exam sessions a year – medal tests (performing dances either solo or in groups), jazz grades and ballet grades.

COMPETITION WORK

Competition work is offered to those who would like to perform on stage, either solo or in a duo. This work is done in private lessons. All solos are choreographed to suit the ability of individual students. Performing solo on stage can be very rewarding for students, building self-confidence and presentation skills.

Please note – all students featured in pictures on this website are students from Alison’s Studio of Dance.
